Before it gets started, an entertainment production company - like any company in any industry - must choose the “business entity” format in which it will operate. That is, will it be a partnership, a corporation, a limited liability company, a limited partnership, or what?
Every business must consider which business entity to use for its activities. Different business entities are different for different purposes. Thus, there are certain types of business entities that are suitable for production and entertainment companies.
So here’s a breakdown of all of the alternatives in California:
1. Sole Proprietorship
2. Partnership
3. Limited Partnership
4. Limited Liability Partnership
5. Corporation
C-Corp
S-Corp
Professional Corporation
Loan Out Corporation
6. Limited Liability Company
We’ll talk about what each of these are in the coming days . . .

Introduction
This blog will cursorily review some of the basic topics in the realm of motion picture and television production legal services.
Every film and television production has a complex legal dimension that usually is not seen on-screen, but is as important to getting the product distributed and seen. If the producers want to make a product that will be free from liability, allow them the full right to distribute as the intend, and avoid additional expense in trying to correct problems later, a comprehensive legal dimension to the production will be included from the outset.
Every day or so I will post a new chapter that tackles a different topic.
